DUI Statistics – Deaths and Injuries

The recent DUI statistics reveal the number of deaths and accidents caused by drunk driving in USA. More than 2700 people are being killed and over 700,000 people getting injured by these accidents every year. The tolls reveal the cause of all traffic accidents and deaths are alcohol. On an average 150 billion dollars are spent every year on DUI accidents. The accidents and deaths caused due to the influence of alcohol decreased compared to the past 30 years. Texas and South Carolina has the highest number of road accidents and deaths caused by drunk driving.
Most of the deaths are caused by drunk drivers whose BAC (blood alcohol concentration) is less than 0.08%. A large number of accidents are caused by the drunk drivers even though the level of alcohol is relatively low. This makes a difference in the DUI laws and DUI penalties caused by the drunk drivers for drunk driving convictions. A DUI conviction can be made for impaired driving, if driving over the legal limit.
The DUI statistics gives a clear picture of the accidents caused by alcohol impairment, because there is a big difference between alcohol impaired and alcohol related accidents. Alcohol related accidents include all those involved in the accident. The average number of people who die in alcohol related accidents decreased compared to the previous decade.
